Grassland

The Grassland of the Carden Plain are rich for our cattle herd's nutritional needs.

Our cattle are pastured on grassland that is part of The Carden Plain, a rare natural environment that the Couchiching Conservancy and other groups are fighting to protect. They recognize ranchers and the pasturing of cattle are an important part of preserving the environment.

More about the Garden Plain>

Grassland or Ranchland is what we call land that is good for pasture but is not good land for growing crops. The land we use is part of the Carden Plain.  It is a rocky limestone terrain, it is half forested and the soil has never been turned up.  The grass here has been evolving here for thousands of years. Because the land has been left alone the grass and plant life is very diverse and has all the minerals cattle need. There are many spring water sources, forests to take shelter in, and native grasses.
